Nooodle is an app for learning technology topics through short lessons. It is made by Yamato Studios LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Nooodle app collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
- You don't need to give us your name, email or phone number to use Nooodle. Creating an account with your email is optional.
- We keep your learning progress so it can be backed up and restored.
- We don't show ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell your data.
- You can delete your data at any time in the app: Me › Settings › Delete my data.
What we collect
An anonymous account ID
The first time you open Nooodle, the app creates an anonymous account using Google Firebase Authentication. It is a random ID and is not linked to your name, email address or phone number unless you choose to create an account (see below). A sign-in token for it is kept in your device's secure keychain so that your backup can be found again if you reinstall the app.
Your email address, if you create an account
Creating an account is optional. You can create one with your email and a password, or with Sign in with Apple or Google. With email, we store your email address and your password (which Firebase Authentication keeps only in a securely hashed form). With Apple or Google, we receive your email address (with Apple you can choose to hide it, and we get a private relay address instead) and, if you share it, your name; we never see your Apple or Google password. We use this so you can log in and get your progress back on another device. We use your email address only for your account, for example to send you a link to reset your password if you ask for one. We don't send you marketing email.
Your learning progress and settings
This includes the lessons you have finished, how many questions you answered correctly, your XP, level, streak and streak freezes, the new words you have learned, and your app settings (such as dark mode, sound, your daily goal and reminder time, and which courses you keep offline). If you type a display name in Settings, that name is included too; it is optional. This information is stored on your device and backed up to our cloud database (Google Cloud Firestore), linked only to your account ID.
Subscription information
If you subscribe to Nooodle Plus, Apple processes the payment. We never receive your card or bank details. To know whether your subscription is active, we use RevenueCat, which receives your account ID and information about your purchase from Apple, such as the plan, purchase and renewal dates, whether you are in a free trial, and the country and currency of the App Store you bought from.
Technical information
Lessons are downloaded from Google Firebase Hosting, and the app's font is loaded from Google Fonts. As with any internet request, these services receive your device's IP address and basic technical details (for example the type of device and software) in order to deliver the content and keep it secure. We don't use this to identify you.
How the app is used
To learn which lessons and courses work well and where the app could be better, the app records a few in-app events: when you open and close the app (and how long you spent in it), when you start, finish or leave a lesson and which course it belongs to, which steps of the first-launch setup you see, and what you do on the Nooodle Plus screen (opening it, choosing a plan, tapping subscribe, and whether the purchase went through). These events are stored in our own cloud database (Google Cloud Firestore), linked to your account ID. If you have created an account, that ID is also connected to your email address, so we can see how a signed-up account uses the app (for example to help you when you contact us). They are not shared with anyone else or used for advertising. If you use Delete my data, your account ID is deleted, so these events can no longer be linked to you.
Reminders
If you turn on practice reminders or streak alerts, the app schedules them as notifications on your device. They are created on your phone; we don't use a push notification service and don't receive a device token. You can turn them off in Me › Settings or in your iPhone's Settings.
What we don't collect
Nooodle does not collect your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data. It contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking tools, and it does not use your device's advertising identifier.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your courses, lessons, streak and progress.
- To back up your progress and restore it if you reinstall the app.
- To provide Nooodle Plus to subscribers and restore purchases.
- To understand how the app is used (in total, not person by person) so we can improve lessons and the app.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- To answer you when you contact us.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases: providing the service you asked for (contract), keeping it secure and working well (our legitimate interests), and your consent where the law requires it.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, only to run Nooodle:
- Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Hosting, Google Fonts): your account (anonymous, or with your email if you create one), the progress backup, lesson downloads and the app's font. See the Firebase privacy information.
- RevenueCat: subscription status for Nooodle Plus. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
- Apple: payments and subscriptions through the App Store, under Apple's privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of Yamato Studios LLC.
Where it is stored
Our service providers store data in the United States. If you use Nooodle from another country, your information is transferred to the United States, protected by our providers' safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your progress backup for as long as you use the app. When you delete your data, your backup and your account (including your email address, if you created an account) are deleted from our database right away. Subscription records held by Apple and RevenueCat may be kept for as long as needed for accounting, tax and legal reasons.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: in the app, go to Me › Settings › Delete my data. This deletes your progress, settings, cloud backup and account, including your email address if you created an account (you'll be asked to confirm with your password, or with Apple or Google). If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Nooodle's access to your Apple ID. Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription; to cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Reset progress: Me › Settings › Reset progress clears your progress and replaces your cloud backup with the empty progress.
- Other requests: depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your information, or to object to or restrict how we use it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Nooodle is a general learning app and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and our database rules only let each account read and write only its own backup. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will let you know in the app.
